Pakistan claims it has downed 12 drones sent from India.
On May 8, 2025, a significant escalation occurred in the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. Pakistan's military reported shooting down 12 Indian drones that had allegedly violated its airspace, including over major cities like Lahore and Karachi. These drones were identified as Israeli-made Harop models.
The drone incursions followed Indian airstrikes on May 7 targeting what India described as "terrorist infrastructure" in Pakistan. These strikes were purportedly in retaliation for a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily Hindu tourists. Pakistan denied involvement in the Kashmir incident and condemned the Indian strikes as acts of "naked aggression," warning of serious consequences.
The situation has raised international concerns about a potential escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The United Nations and other global entities have urged both nations to exercise restraint and seek diplomatic solutions to avoid further conflict.
As the region watches closely, the international community hopes for a de-escalation of tensions and a return to peaceful dialogue between India and Pakistan.
